Living Legacy Films FAQ
Who are you guys?
Living Legacy Films is a branch of Drew Morey Productions, a full service video production company founded in 1999 serving corporate, social agency, healthcare and educational clients. Our passion has always been to tell the human side of every story in the most creative and engaging way possible.
One thing that makes producing legacy films so rewarding is the freedom to set aside promotion and branding and focus exclusively on the richness of people’s personal histories. Memories are like priceless digital photos, waiting to be downloaded and shared.
The Living Legacy creative approach is similar to what Michaelangelo did when he carved out the statue of David. He walked around the marble slab, visualizing the treasure inside, and then proceeded to remove all the bits that weren’t David. We look for the masterpiece hidden in each story and work with you to bring it to life.
What’s the difference between a Tribute and a Personal Memoir?
If you want to celebrate and honour your loved ones by telling their life stories in a documentary video, we call that a Tribute Legacy Film. Several key people usually participate in the storytelling, and sometimes the heroes/heroines even get to say a word or two for themselves.
If you want to tell your own life story so that future generations can learn about you and their family history, we call that a Personal Memoir Legacy Film. Others who know you well can corroborate and add to your story, giving the whole presentation an added richness
Say I decide to contact you. What happens next?
How involved do I have to be in the process?
You can be involved as little or as much as you want. The more information and resources we have to work with, the better your final presentation will be. It’s also helpful for our interviewer to chat over the phone with each person who will be on camera in advance of the actual shooting date(s).
We will work with you to get access to the largest possible selection of relevant photos, both recent as well as old.
Speaking of photos, we can enhance old or damaged ones, and we use special software to make poor quality, smaller pictures look bigger and better. We can also do the same with old movies and cell phone videos. It’s a huge bonus for us to have access to any that are available, whether Super 8 film, VHS tape or any other format.
It might even be helpful to dig out old newspaper clippings and memorabilia like souvenirs, awards, childhood toys … the possibilities are endless.
How much will it cost?
Our productions are a high value, custom commissioned form of art with a permanent shelf life, and our packages start at $3,450. For that price, you can get a beautiful Living Legacy Portrait, which is a 3-4 minute snapshot of a person's life, illustrated by one or possibly two related short stories that encapsulate your hero’s (or your own) character and personality.
This mini documentary incorporates interviews with up to 3 different people, shot in one location. Together with the finished film, the Legacy Portrait package includes a separate full hour video containing the best parts of the interview(s), or we will provide you with the edited interviews as separate videos, if you prefer.
Additional interviews and longer films fall into a higher price range, and we will gladly chat with you about what that might look like in your case, without any pressure at all. Regardless of the length of the film we produce for you, your production will include the best possible combination of all the same creative elements.
There is also a budget friendly option which we encourage people to consider, which is having just the interviews professionally filmed and edited to remove unwanted pauses and mistakes. Recording priceless, first hand memories on video preserves them forever, and allows you the option of including them in a documentary film at some point in the future.
For $1,500, we will shoot three interviews at the same location, and then supply you with an edited film of any or all of the interviews that is a total of one hour long. We will also keep an archive of your original footage on file indefinitely.
If you would prefer to record precious family memories yourself, contact us, and we’ll offer you some free advice on how to do it better!
